I can’t stop laughing……yet there is so much truth in humor to this video
Bart D. Erhman is one on the leading New Testament Scholars in the world. While a agree with his historical research, we differ on conclusions. That said, I find this video hilarious
Enjoy! Thank you Art (Aboulet) for sharing this on your site
What do you think?

It’s funny on so many levels, not the least of which being that Colbert is a practicing Catholic who may actually believe what he says deadpan on the interview.
I think that it takes a lot more balls to say that you “don’t know” than to say this is the “way it is.”
ryc Sashua: I found it funny non many levels, not even knowing where Colbert stood at all. I detected some honesty in his questions
ryc Ron: I agree that it does take more balls to “not know”. Although I find his definition of “agnostic” hilarious
Great interview… “Do you believe in God?”
“One of the leading New Testement scholars…?” Why would you go to a non-believer for insight into the word of God? “The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.”
We are not only ministered to by the words written thousand of years ago. We are ministered to by the Spirit TODAY.
ryc JesusOnly: Thank you for your comment. I agree very much that it is not wise to go to a non-believer for insight into the Word of God. I would note that what I said above is, “While a agree with his historical research, we differ on conclusions.” I guess that you would have to have read Bart’s research to understand that statement. His expertise is in knowing the thousands of manuscripts that are pieced together to form that many translations of our New Testament. His research into this area is undisputable and backed up by many other great New Testament Scholars such as Bruce Manning Metzger (who is a believer). However, I often disagree with his conclusions as to the why’s and motivations of the tens of thousands of differences among ancient manuscripts. Again though, the differences themselves are undisputable…they are what they are.
I also agree that “we are not only ministered to by the words written thousand of years ago. We are ministered to by the Spirit TODAY“. I believe that you hit the nail right on the head. However, we cannot ignore…and we must in some way reconcile….the thousands of differences in ancient manuscripts…. as we do not have the original copies. Additionally, these differences are reflected in the hundreds of translations available today (King James, New King James, New International, Revised Standard, etc).
You ask, “Why would you go to a non-believer for insight into the word of God?” I do not go to him for insight into God’s Word. His research however, into ancient manuscripts is valuable and correct. There is no opinion whatsoever in what is written on one fragment and what is written on another, what is there is there my friend. The difference is in our (or his) interpretation of the implication of these differences among fragments/manuscripts containing the same Scripture. I do not recommend Bart Erhman to anyone but Biblical New Testament scholars.
If you are interested in examples of what I am talking about, feel free to read these post:
BIBLE DIFFICULTIES: “Mark’s Endings” Mark 16:9-20
BIBLE DIFFICULTIES: “The Heavenly Witness” 1 John 5:7-8
Again, thank you very much for your comments and for joining the discussion. God bless you!
ryc… “Do you believe in God?”… what i meant was that it was great question from Colbert. It cuts to the heart of the matter.
I found the interview very funny and interesting. I was amazed at the Scriptural knowledge of both Colbert and Stewart. God is always up to something…
